Golden Retriever's Heritage Craft Leather is softer and more pliable. Soft, flexible and absolutely luxurious, our customers love it. Makes a great belt, dog barker, keychain, wristband or wallet. This leather is fully pre-dyed for flawless results, saving you the steps of finishing your leather project. We love Golden Retriever and you will too.

Leather Cutting Guide

1. Pattern Prep

Create templates (cardboard/plastic) or mark directly on leather’s flesh side.

2. Leather Placement

Grain side up for easier cutting; flesh side requires extra care.

3. Cutting

Match tools to leather thickness. Cut vertically for clean edges.

4. Edge Finishing

Sand rough edges post-cut.

Leather Sewing Guide

1. Prep the Leather

Cut pieces to size; bevel edges for clean seams.

Mark stitch lines with a groover (protects thread).

- Pre-punch holes:

  • Thin leather (≤2mm): Awl, 3-5mm spacing.
  • Thick leather (≥3mm): Diamond chisel + mallet.

2. Secure Pieces

  • Clamp layers tightly (prevents shifting).
  • Optional: Apply leather glue for temporary hold.

3. Thread Setup

  • Use thread 2-3x the stitch length.
  • Knot one end (prevents pull-through).

4. Saddle Stitch (Pro Method)

  • Start from inside：Push needle out through first hole.
  • Cross to next hole: Insert from outside to inside on opposite side.
  • Alternate sides, forming "X" stitches on the front.
  • Pull snug (don’t over-tighten; distorts leather).
  • Finish with a double knot inside + dab glue for security.

5. Edge Finishing

  • Burnish edges with wax + wooden slicker.
  • Trim excess threads with sharp scissors.

Hand-Cutting


- Rotary Cutter:
Best for thin leather & straight lines. Use a ruler as a guide.

- Leather Shears:
Short, heavy-duty scissors for thick leather. Slow but precise.

- Craft Knife:
Sharp blades for intricate designs. Requires multiple passes on thick hides.

Machine-Assisted

- Die-Cutting:
Metal dies + press for mass production (logos/repeats).

- Laser Cutting:
High-precision, complex designs. Costly but efficient for bulk/high-end work.
